ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

 

Course description

The National Golf Links of America is located on the east end of Long Island in the Hamptons, just 90 miles from New York City.  The Club was founded and designed in 1908 by CB Macdonald who ran the club until 1938.  The club hosted the inaugural Walker Cup in 1922 and again in 2013, both of which resulted in wins for the USA.  The course is true links “out and back” routing and is annually ranked in the top 10 in the United States.  The property encompasses 245 acres which includes more than 350 bunkers, 75+ acres of native grass areas and 65 acres of short cut turf.  The club is open for play 6 months of the year with a staff of 35 in-season and 18 in the off-season.

 

Job Description

The assistant superintendent will be part of the management team and directly involved in all aspects of championship links conditioning.  The duties will include daily course set-up, pesticide and fertilizer applications, maintaining proper moisture levels in all turf areas, topdressing, brushing, rolling and all other required tasks.  All members of the management team are involved in the daily preparations of the golf course.  Off-season work will include multiple small projects that are done in-house and some larger capital projects.

 

Educational Requirements

Turf Certificate or AS/BS in Turfgrass Management or related field

 

Experience Requirements

2-3 years preferred but willing to train the right candidate

• Candidates should be driven towards career advancement with the goal of becoming a golf course superintendent.

• Must be able to obtain a NYSDEC Pesticide applicators license within 90 days

• Valid driver’s license

• Knowledge of golf and playability a plus

• Understanding of the commitment to manage a top 10 facility
