SECOND ASSISTANT

 

Facility Description:   The Rockaway Hunting Club is a unique, private club located on the south shore of Long Island, five miles from JFK airport, and 45 minutes from downtown Manhattan.  It is an 18-hole, par 70 golf course designed by Devereux Emmet and A.W. Tillinghast, and most recently renovated in 2009 by The Hanse Group.  The Club was founded in 1878 and is the oldest known club in the United States, with beautiful seaside vistas.  The turf is mostly bent/poa with an automated Toro irrigation system.  Other club amenities include; 20 grass tennis courts, 7 hydro tennis courts, 2 outdoor paddle courts, 4 pickleball courts, squash, and skeet & trap shooting range.

 

Position Overview and Responsibilities:   2nd Assistant will play an intricate roll in the maintenance team at RHC, with room for advancement and growth. Responsibilities include, but not limited to golf course maintenance, pesticide and fertilizer application, course setup, irrigation operation and repair, recordkeeping, crew supervision, crew setup, project management, snow removal, tennis court maintenance. Rockaway is currently involved with the Hanse Group to complete the clubs “master plan.”  2nd Assistant reports directly to Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent

 

Qualifications:   Helpful to have a 2- or 4-year degree in turf management, but not required. Preferred minimum of 2 years golf course work experience.  Must be an individual that is highly motivated, strong leadership skills, strong communication skills, and Spanish speaking is a plus.  Knowledge of the game of golf is preferred, but not required.
