DESCRIPTION

Winged Foot Golf Club is a private golf club set in Mamaroneck, NY, located just 20 miles north of NYC. The Club was founded in 1921 and opened for play in 1923. A.W. Tillinghast was hired to design the two championship caliber golf courses. Winged Foot Golf Club has hosted numerous major championships on both courses, most recently on the West Course with its 6th U.S. Open in September 2020. Since their opening, both the West and East courses have been regularly ranked in the Golf Digest Top 100 in the United States, with the West Course consistently ranking in the top 12. The Club recently completed a restoration of both golf courses and built a new state-of-the-art turf care facility.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant-In-Training reports to the Director of Golf Courses and works alongside the turf management team to provide championship conditions on both courses daily. The ideal candidate must be motivated with the desire to advance in the golf course maintenance industry. The AIT will assist in fertilization and chemical applications, water management, irrigation repair, and participate in the daily maintenance practices. The AIT will have opportunity for advancement within the management team.

 

REQUIREMENTS

• A 2- or 4-year degree in Turf Management is preferred, but not required.

• Minimum 2 years of golf course maintenance experience.

• Must have or be able to obtain a NYS pesticide applicators license.

• The ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a drive to succeed in a fast-paced team environment, with the understanding of the commitment it takes to maintain two top 100 golf courses daily. The AIT will be an important member of the turf management team and will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to advance their career in the golf course maintenance industry.
