GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
Plandome Country Club is looking for a new head superintendent to lead all aspects of golf course and grounds maintenance, beginning Jan. 1, 2027. It comes with competitive salary and bonus structure, exceptional on-site housing (more below), a top-tier course budget, plus insurance, retirement, and vacation benefits.
About the Club
Plandome is a long-standing private club in a wonderful community with a very active family membership. The course (now 19 holes) was originally laid out by Orrin Smith in 1931 and most recently went through a full bunker renovation completed in 2018. All irrigation and maintenance facilities are up to date, with the industry-recommended annual new equipment budget and continuing capital improvements. The course sits on 88 acres of rolling hills, with small, sloping greens, proving rather difficult in local and regional amateur events.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain the golf course to the highest possible consistent playing conditions.
Develop and execute on near- and long-term plans to improve turf stability.
Maintain a steady visibility, interacting with members and staff and communicating effectively.
Play a central role in any capital projects currently planned or in the future and help execute on their delivery.
Manage the entirety of the golf course budget, including staff appointments and scheduling.
Help to maintain and manage the rest of the property outside of the golf course, including limited wintertime maintenance.
Understand golf course architecture and how maintenance plays a role in optimizing playability and aesthetics.

Either:
A current head superintendent with a successful track record, OR
An assistant superintendent with at least 3-5 years of extensive experience managing staff, budgets, and membership.
A degree or certificate from an accredited program in turfgrass management, agronomy, or a related field.
Knowledge of the northeast growing conditions, especially challenging weather and varying soil compositions.
Any and all applicable licenses needed for pesticide application or other duties.

Base salary range of $200,000-$275,000, dependent on qualifications
Annual bonus eligibility
Single-family housing
Health insurance, 401(k) eligibility, association dues, paid time off, paid phone

The residence is located in a bucolic, tree-lined neighborhood, one block from a large, public park, in the terrific school district of Port Washington. It is adjacent to the fifth tee box, next to a gated maintenance entrance to the golf course and 200 yards from the main maintenance facility. The home has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a finished basement, and a brand new outdoor deck.
