GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Spring Lake Golf Club is a privately owned, 27-hole public golf facility located in Middle Island on Long Island, New York. Established in 1967, Spring Lake features an 18-hole golf course and the Sandpiper 9-hole course. Both courses feature large undulating greens and fairways lined with century-old oaks creating a picturesque test of golf. The facility also includes a full practice range. Spring Lake Golf course is committed to providing consistently high-quality playing conditions with amenities that serve a busy public golf operation. The Superintendent will lead all aspects of golf course maintenance and work closely with the Director of Golf, General Manager, and golf operations staff.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee daily and long-range maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, practice facilities, landscaped areas, and other Club grounds.

• Develop and execute agronomic programs, including mowing, fertility, pesticide applications, aerification, topdressing, irrigation, and pest/disease management.

• Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and develop the golf course maintenance staff with an emphasis on teamwork, efficiency, safety, and accountability.

• Manage the irrigation system to promote turf health, water efficiency, and reliable operation.

• Develop and manage operating budgets, labor, equipment, materials, and inventories with an emphasis on fiscal responsibility.

• Plan and oversee golf course renovation, construction, restoration, and capital improvement projects. *New Irrigation system installation beginning Fall of 2026.

• Maintain required records and ensure compliance with federal, New York State, and local regulations involving pesticides, fertilizers, water usage, safety, and environmental standards.

• Communicate effectively with management and golf operations regarding course conditions, maintenance activities, projects, and long-term objectives.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field preferred.

• Previous superintendent, assistant superintendent, or comparable golf course management experience.

• Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation, fertility, chemical applications, and course conditioning.

• Experience with golf course renovation projects, particularly teeing surface reconstruction and bunker face renovation, is highly desirable.

• Proven experience operating and managing automated irrigation systems and pump stations.

• Valid Driver’s license and a clean driving record.

• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, budgeting, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• New York State Pesticide Applicator License.

• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as operational needs require.

• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus but not required.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

• This position is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.

• Competitive salary [$115,000-$145,000] commensurate with experience.
