GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
Colonial Springs Golf Club, located in Farmingdale, NY, is a premier private club offering its members 27 holes of championship golf, superior practice facilities, and exquisite club dining. The course features a 2007 redesign by Robert Trent Jones Jr., which took full advantage of the natural terrain to create a breathtaking golf experience. Position Overview Colonial Springs Golf Club is seeking a dedicated and experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomy for our 27-hole facility. The Superintendent will oversee the maintenance, management, and daily operations of the golf course while ensuring exceptional playing conditions that align with Colonial Springs’ high standards. This individual will play a key role in staff leadership, budget management, and long-term planning to support the continued excellence of the club.
Key Responsibilities
• Direct and supervise all golf course maintenance operations, including greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and practice facilities.
• Develop and implement agronomic programs, including turfgrass maintenance, irrigation, fertilization, and pest management.
• Recruit, train, and manage a skilled turf maintenance staff, fostering a culture of teamwork and professionalism.
• Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget, including labor, equipment, and agronomic supplies.
• Oversee irrigation system operation, maintenance, and future planning.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding chemical applications, safety, and environmental stewardship.
• Collaborate with the Club President and Golf Professional to ensure alignment with club goals and member expectations.
• Maintain high standards of course conditioning for daily play, club events, and tournaments.
• Stay current with industry best practices, technologies, and innovations in golf course management.
• Plans and manage golf course renovation or enhancement projects, coordinating major event preparations (such as tournaments) and working closely with architects and others to achieve project goals.
• Communicate with members regarding course conditions and relevant projects.
• Colonial Springs Golf Club is open from March 15-December 15th annually.
Qualifications & Skills
• Degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field (preferred).
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in golf course management, with prior experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent at a high-quality facility.
• Current state pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain.
• GCSAA Class A preferred.
• Strong agronomic knowledge with proven experience maintaining cool-season grasses in the Northeast.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and motivate a maintenance team.
• Solid financial acumen with experience developing and managing maintenance budgets.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with staff, management, and club members.
• High attention to detail, organizational skills, and a passion for delivering superior golf course conditioning.
• Commitment to environmental stewardship and best practices in sustainable course management.
Compensation & Benefits Colonial Springs Golf Club offers a competitive compensation package of $275,000-$325,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include health insurance, 401K with match, professional association dues, continuing education support, meals, uniforms, vehicle and golf privileges. Additional benefits may be discussed during the interview process.
