The club is seeking a passionate, experienced and forward-thinking Greens and Grounds Superintendent to lead the maintenance and enhancement of our 18-hole golf course and club grounds.

Position Overview

The Greens and Grounds Superintendent is responsible for the overall care, maintenance and aesthetic presentation of the golf course, surrounding landscapes and property grounds.

including turf health, irrigation, landscaping, staffing, budgeting, and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the General Manager, this leadership role oversees the agronomy team and works collaboratively with the Golf Professional, Golf Course Architect (as needed), and Board/Greens Committee to ensure optimal playing conditions and property standards that reflect the prestige of Huntington Country Club. We are looking for a strong leader who values teamwork, communicates clearly, and maintains high agronomic standards.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities

● Lead and manage all aspects of agronomic operations including turfgrass management, irrigation, pest control and environmental stewardship.

● Develop and manage annual budgets, long-range capital planning, and procurement of equipment and supplies

● Develop and implement turfgrass, plant health, and irrigation programs.

● Recruit, train, and supervise the maintenance team, including Assistant Superintendent, mechanics, and seasonal staff, promoting a culture of professionalism, accountability and safety

● Communicate regularly and transparently with the General Manager, Greens Committee and membership

● Coordinate with Golf Operations to ensure seamless execution of tournaments, events, and day-to-day play

● Collaborate on future course enhancement projects and sustainability initiatives

● Oversee pesticide and fertilizer applications in full compliance with state and federal regulations.

● Maintain accurate records for agronomic practices, equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance, and safety protocols

● Plan and execute grounds and course improvement projects, including renovations, drainage work, aeration, and landscaping

● Maintain and improve course conditions, with a focus on sand-based bentgrass tees, greens, and fairways

● Monitor and manage irrigation systems with an emphasis on water conservation and sustainability

● Oversee the care and maintenance of all landscaping, including ornamental plants, trees, shrubs, and high-visibility areas to ensure consistent, visually appealing grounds

● Provide training and oversight to ensure proper use and maintenance of all mechanical and power equipment

● Enforce OSHA standards and safe work practices through regular safety training and on-site supervision

● Coordinate snow removal and oversee winter maintenance operations as needed

● Foster a safe, respectful, and productive work environment aligned with club policies and regulatory guidelines.

● Organizational background, maintain all areas of the operation neat, clean and organized at all times

● Maintain the membership well informed of course conditions and or restrictions

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

● 5+ years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or First Assistant Superintendent at a reputable facility

● Associate or bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field

● Proven experience managing sand-based bent grass greens in the Northeast.

● Pesticide certification or ability to obtain

● Valid driver’s license.

● GCSAA certification and membership in good standing or ability to obtain upon hire.

● Strong proficiency with budgeting, reporting, and golf course management software, including Microsoft Office and irrigation control systems.

● Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

● Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
