Senior Assistant Superintendent
Open for play 6 months a year, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is a private 18-hole golf course located 80 miles east of New York City. Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, founded in 1891, is one of the oldest golf clubs in the United States, and one of the five founding clubs in the USGA. The present course was designed in 1931 by William S. Flynn. Shinnecock Hills Golf Club has hosted 5 US Opens, (the only club to do so in three different centuries) 1 US Women's Amateur, 1 US Senior Amateur, the 1977 Walker Cup Matches and will host the 2026 United States Open Championship. Presently ranked 4th in Golf Digest's Top 100, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is one of the premier facilities in the country based upon its timeless design, history, and exclusivity.
The assistant superintendent, under the supervision of the golf course superintendent performs all duties related to golf course maintenance. This includes but is not limited to team building, chemical and fertilizer applications, hand watering of fine turf, irrigation repairs and staff supervision. The individual should be a dedicated team player who will do whatever it takes to produce the best playing conditions for the membership. Must possess a positive attitude, good communication, organizational and leadership skills as well as have a keen eye for detail. Must be willing to work long hours in-season.
Turf certificate, A.S or B.S degree in turfgrass management or closely related field. Minimum 5 years golf course experience, 2 of which should be in a supervisory position. Must be able to obtain New York State Pesticide License within 90 days of hire date. Speaking and understanding Spanish a plus. Must understand the game of golf, have a solid work history and carry very high expectations for themselves and the golf course at all times. Must have a valid driver's license and your own vehicle.
