ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

The Village Club of Sands Point covers approximately 210 acres and includes an 18-hole Tom Doak-designed course with stunning views of the Hempstead Harbor, 12 regulation Har-Tru tennis courts, 6 platform courts, and The Guggenheim Mansion which hosts formal dining as well as a variety of events.

 

The former Guggenheim estate and later the IBM Country Club was purchased by the Village of Sands Point in 1994. The golf course underwent renovation with 9 new holes of golf opening in July 2000. The existing 9-hole course underwent extensive renovation and opened in May of 2001 as an 18-hole golf course. In 2016 a complete bunker renovation was performed. The mansion continues to serve as the focal point for numerous club activities. In addition, lodging is available to visiting guests of members.

The Village Club of Sands Point is a municipal-owned private club located in Sands Point, New York. We are looking to add an individual to our team who is eager to play a major role in enhancing our club, its staff, and its excellent reputation. The individual should be self-motivated, hard-working, and possess a keen eye for detail.

 

The Assistant Superintendent will be a proven leader looking to advance their career in the turf management industry and will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in the planning and implementing of the budget, and operating plans, as well as the training and supervision of the maintenance team and be focused on providing consistently high-quality conditions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Effectively manage a predominately Spanish-speaking staff.

· Plan and implement staffing schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved with high efficiency.

· Supervise and perform various maintenance duties to maintain the golf course in proper playing conditions according to club standards.

· Assist with daily irrigation management practices and scheduling. Perform upkeep of the irrigation system including changes and repairs as necessary.

· Assist with the development and implementation of fertility, Integrated Pest Management, and cultural practice programs for proper turf grass and plant care.

· Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA rules and regulations, relating to chemical and fertilizer storage and disposal, employee safety, public safety, etc.

· Assist with the management of employment activities for maintenance team members, including but not limited to, personnel recruitment and selection, training, performance evaluations, discipline, termination, etc.

· Maintain accurate records pertaining to department activities including, but not limited to, labor schedules, course maintenance, construction activities, equipment repair, safety meetings and activities, fertilizer and chemical applications, and pest control practices.

· Perform other duties as appropriate and necessary.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience as a Assistant on a golf course

 

COMPENSATION:

$100,000 5 Day work week(1 weekend day and 1 weekday off year-round), end-of-year bonus, meals, 401K after 1 year, health, dental and vision insurance after 30 days, golfing privileges, vacation/sick time, national and local association dues, educational seminars
